Manhattan Country School has been a model for progressive education since its founding in 1966. For nearly five decades, MCS students have benefitted from an approach to education rooted in a commitment to equality and social justice. Our innovative, dynamic curriculum supports the values of a working democracy—interdependence, self-reliance, free inquiry and respect for differences—and has had a profound impact on children’s academic and social development. This year, our academic philosophy received national attention as we served as the host school for the Progressive Education Network national conference in New York City in October. The conference theme—Access, Equality and Activism: Teaching the Possible—reflected our focus on incorporating social justice throughout our curriculum.
Our ability to foster an ongoing dialogue about progressive education and social justice both inside and outside the classroom is possible because of the generous support of the MCS community—parents, alumni, friends, corporations and private foundations who believe in our mission and the work that we do. Contributions to the MCS Annual Fund sustain our commitment to independent progressive education and an equitable tuition program that fosters unparalleled racial, cultural and economic diversity.
In 2016, Manhattan Country School will celebrate its 50th anniversary. Your support of the MCS Annual Fund will ensure that our mission of developing leaders who change the world endures for another 50 years.
